Reconstruction of the Khulo-Zarzma Road

The reconstruction of the Khulo-Zarzma section on the Batumi (Angisa) - Akhaltsikhe motor road is actively ongoing. In total, the rehabilitation and reconstruction are being carried out on a 47-kilometer road.

The works on the 21 km section have been completed, and the laying of an asphalt-concrete surface is currently in progress on the remaining 26 km section. Work is also actively continuing on the landslide-prone areas.

This year, the main part of the landslide-prone areas is planned for completion, along with the full completion of asphalt-concrete works on the remaining section of the road.

The upgraded Khulo-Zarzma road will provide the shortest connection between the Samtskhe-Javakheti and Adjara regions. Its rehabilitation and reconstruction will contribute to improving the socio-economic conditions of the population in Upper Adjara and Samtskhe-Javakheti, as well as the development of tourism. Road traffic safety will also significantly improve. Moreover, with the updated road, travel time from Batumi to Akhaltsikhe will be reduced by 1.5 hours.

The rehabilitated road section starts from the town of Khulo, passes through the Goderdzi Pass, and reaches the village of Zarzma in Adigeni.
